Mareunrol's "Nightmares" (2006) - Fashion Presentation Prescience

This utterly gorgeous presentation of Mareunrol’s 2006 “collection” is eerily prescient of the fashion presentation as we’ve known it since 2009, when full-scale runway shows simply became too expensive for some small collection designers. Mareunrol’s is design collaboration headquarted in Riga, Latvia and is dedicated to dedicated to surrealism and innovation within classic fashion archetypes. Accordingly, the 2008 “Private Detective” presentation is a forerunner — if not a direct influence — on visual themes in Jonas Åkerlund’s videos for Gaga’s “Paparazzi” and “Telephone” videos.

And because you can’t mention Åkerlund without mentioning Bathory, and thus, black metal — even though you also have to think about the fact that Åkerlund directed a whole lot of Roxette videos and brought us Madonna’s “Ray of Light” — we have to mention how face-meltingly fucking good Alcest were last week, human frailty notwithstanding. Seriously, the post-black metal stuff coming out of France (Alcest / Lantlôs / Amesoeurs, Les Discrets) is some of the most inspiring music I’ve been turned on to in a very, very long time. Here’s some perfection in the form of Alcest (live in Bucharest):
